Technology in the bathroom
How much technology does the bathroom need?

Trend researchers are certain that the future belongs to intelligent bathroom and sanitary technologies. In the place where we clean ourselves but also relax, digital applications for lighting, temperature, media, and water staging are increasingly coming into focus in order to enhance our well-being. In addition, digital tools can help to conserve resources and keep an eye on water consumption. Smart tools offer all these functions in a completely intuitive way. Duravit offers a whole range of products with smart functions. Whether it's the sensor faucet that automatically dispenses water, the light on the mirror that can be switched on with a wave of the hand, or the shower toilet whose lid opens automatically.
Additive and supportive
Smart bathrooms require a lot of electricity, which should be taken into account when renovating or planning a new bathroom. Ultimately, these technologies should not take over the bathroom, but rather offer users added value. Ideally, they should be used as an addition and support—and, above all, remain invisible. Designer Philippe Starck agrees: "In the 21st century, our task is to drive technological progress without making it visible. Because the more technology, mechanics, and materiality there is, the less human it seems."

Open sesame
Touch-free operation in the bathroom, where hygiene is particularly important, has recently received special attention due to the pandemic. Touch-free faucets are being used more and more frequently, especially in public areas such as airports and work environments. But they are also finding their way into private homes, where they can provide useful services – for example, when older people are no longer as mobile and fit as they used to be. It is very convenient when the tap turns on and off automatically.
With Sensor 1, Duravit offers a touchless faucet equipped with an infrared sensor and proximity electronics. The electronics react within 1.5 seconds, and water only flows during use. Sensor 1 is therefore characterized by water savings and resource conservation.

Shower toilet for improved hygiene
The shower toilet is particularly smart, with Duravit offering two complete systems, SensoWash® Starck f and SensoWash® D-Neo, as well as two toilet seat combinations, SensoWash® Classic and SensoWash® Slim, in its range. Whereas shower toilets used to be large and bulky, they are now becoming increasingly slim and elegant. They can be controlled via an app or remote control and feature various operating modes such as a proximity sensor for automatic lid opening, user recognition in the seat, and various settings for seat heating, shower spray, and warm air dryer. This makes using the toilet much more pleasant and also ensures greater hygiene. The technology is controlled via a switch on the Toilet, by remote control, or via an app and can be individually programmed for each user.

Designer Philippe Starck, who designed the SensoWash® Starck f and SensoWash® Classic: "With a shower toilet, it's important to design the range very precisely and then work on 'user-friendly operation' so that it's very easy for everyone to use. The design must be absolutely timeless, as it's an item that isn't cheap and needs to last a long time."
