Toilets
High-quality design and seating comfort from Duravit
Wall-mounted or floor-standing toilet?
Toilets come in countless designs, including those from Duravit. From the classic floor-standing toilet installed on the floor, to wall-mounted toilets or easy-care, rimless toilets, to the luxurious bidet toilet.

Wall-hung toilet
For wall-hung or suspended toilets, the toilet's pre-wall element must be exposed to install a new toilet. Wall-mounted toilets impress with their modern look and easy-to-clean design underneath the toilet. They are slightly more compact than floor-standing toilets and are also suitable for bathrooms with limited space. For those looking for a particularly space-saving wall-mounted toilet, for example for the guest bathroom, we recommend our compact models, which are a few centimeters shorter than our conventional wall-mounted toilets.

Floor-standing toilet
Floor-standing toilets are installed on the floor. This has the advantage that the connection can be easily laid and replacement is straightforward. A common floor-standing toilet variant is the so-called two-piece toilet with a cistern mounted directly on top. Visually, it is a real eye-catcher, as it appears to be cast in a single piece. As a rule, floor-standing toilets have a horizontal outlet, i.e. the pipe runs into the wall. However, they can also be converted to a vertical outlet using connection bends, so that the drain disappears vertically into the floor. This allows the installation to be flexibly adapted to the structural conditions.

Rimless toilets
Whether wall-mounted or floor-standing, the rimless toilet is particularly easy to clean. The open rim design of Duravit Rimless® enables an innovative water flow. Thanks to modern 4.5-liter technology (1 liter / sec.), perfect rinsing results are guaranteed even with small amounts of water. Thanks to the open and easily accessible rim area, the basin is even easier to keep clean.

Suitable toilet accessories
The following products can be used to complete the toilet area in your bathroom:

Toilet seats for every toilet
Despite the fact that toilets are not standardized, there are some shapes and sizes of toilet seats that have become established among manufacturers. Ideally, the toilet seat, which consists of the toilet seat and toilet lid, should be flush with the edge of the toilet and should be visually coordinated.

Accessories to complement the Toilet
Once the right toilet has been found, the matching toilet brush set and a stylish paper roll holder should not be missing. We offer paper roll holders with or without a lid. What's more, you don't need a drill for wall mounting, but can fix the paper roll holder with a special adhesive.
Toilet installation
In addition to a matching toilet seat and accessories, there are other accessories that are necessary for the installation of the toilet, for example, and complete the toilet area both visually and functionally.

Installation elements
Whether new construction, renovation, dry or wet installation, Duravit's state-of-the-art, pre-assembled DuraSystem® installation systems offer proven and convenient concealed technology for Toilets, Urinals, Vanities and Bidets. Only the high-quality actuator plates and faucets are visible in front of the wall.

Flush plates
Flush plates must match the installation element and are a perfect addition to the designer bathroom. There are two types: mechanical and electronic. The latter can be activated by approaching an infrared sensor and controlled by remote control in conjunction with SensoWash®. Thanks to their clear, timelessly modern look, they blend harmoniously into the bathroom.

Overview of special toilet types
There are various types of toilet that do not correspond to the "classic" toilet at first or even second glance and all have their special advantages:

Shortened toilets
Shorter toilets are used in small bathrooms in particular. With their compact dimensions, they are particularly space-saving and are therefore also called space-saving toilets or compact toilets. These are exclusively wall-mounted toilets. Visually, they hardly differ from comparable models of the same series with a normal projection.

Raised toilets
Raised toilets are suitable for certain architectural or physical conditions. A seat that is raised by just 5 cm makes it easier to stand up and sit down, which can be extremely practical, especially for older people. Existing connections can be used for installation.

Accessibility with Vital models
To meet the special requirements of a barrier-free bathroom, Duravit offers the Vital models from the D-Code, DuraStyle, Architec and Starck 3 series with a seat height of 45-50 cm and a projection of 70 cm, which meet the current DIN standards and ensure comfortable transfer and the greatest possible independence of use. In addition, fold-up support handles with an integrated paper roll holder and a back support can provide better stability and easy handling.
Washdown toilets vs. washout toilets
There are numerous points to consider when planning and renovating a bathroom. Since bathrooms are not usually renovated from scratch every few years, the overall design should be as timeless as possible and adapted to personal needs in the long term. In addition to the choice between a wall-hung and a floor-standing toilet, you also have to decide whether you want to integrate a washdown or a washout toilet into your bathroom. But what exactly is the difference between the two toilet types and how do they differ from one another? The fundamental difference between washdown and washout toilets is the shape of the toilet bowl.
Washdown toilets
Washdown toilets are by far the more popular option for both private and public toilets and are more common in modern bathrooms. They resemble a funnel so that excreta fall directly into the siphon below the water level or into the drain hole, and are considered the more hygienic solution. Unpleasant odors are reduced. In addition, Washdown toilets are easier to clean because less residue adheres to the sanitary ware due to the vertical fall into the water. This shape allows the flushing water to easily carry the dirt away. In addition, water consumption is lower than with Washout toilets because less water is needed to transport the excreta into the drainpipe.
Washout toilets
Washout toilets, on the other hand, have a kind of step inside, also called a stool, that catches excrement. The water-filled siphon is at the front. The contents only get into the water when the flush is activated. The advantage of washout toilets is that the stool makes it easier to check for blood in the stool and to take stool samples. Therefore, washout toilets are more likely to be installed in medical facilities than in private homes.
Black toilets – what you need to bear in mind
Toilets that are black look elegant and extravagant – especially if they have a matte finish. They stand out, but at the same time they also make the bathroom feel more comfortable, which is why they are particularly popular in modern bathrooms. Black is timelessly elegant and can be combined with almost any color. A black toilet creates a harmonious look, especially in dark bathrooms, but also when only a few elements, such as bathroom furniture, the decoration or the floor, are in dark tones.

A dark toilet in front of a light wall will quickly become the focal point of the bathroom. In contrast, in front of a dark wall, it blends in perfectly with the overall concept of the bathroom and tends to fade into the background. The only drawback: black toilets are usually a little more high-maintenance, as limescale deposits are more visible. That's why effective surface coatings, such as the optional WonderGliss coating, are particularly important for black toilets. Thanks to the seal, water droplets bead up and take dirt and deposits with them when flushed. This is why Duravit's inner bowls are always shiny – even if the toilet is matt on the outside.
Checklist for buying a toilet
Here you will find the most important factors to consider when buying a toilet. Often, the individual aspects depend on personal preferences and the architectural conditions, so you need to find out in advance what is structurally possible in the respective bathroom. Based on this information, you can then make the following decisions:
- Wall-mounted toilet or floor-standing toilet?
- Vertical or horizontal outlet?
- Washdown toilet or washout toilet?
- Classic, raised or shortened toilet?
- Toilet with shower function (shower toilet) or without?
- Toilet with or without a rim?
- Shape: D-shape, square or oval?
- Color: black or white; matt or glossy?
- Toilet seat with or without slow-close function?
- Toilet seat removable with a simple hand movement or not?
