Seamless bathroom

No tiles and totally on trend

Whether on the floor or on the wall, tiles are an indispensable part of any bathroom. However, a bathroom without tiles is entirely possible and also offers practical advantages. A jointless bathroom provides significantly less surface area for dirt and mold to accumulate and is also easier to clean. The aesthetic aspect is not neglected either: seamless bathrooms can create a harmonious overall look and are therefore very much in vogue.

Advantages of a seamless bathroom

The advantages of a seamless bathroom should not be underestimated. Apart from practical aspects, a seamless bathroom also has a lot to offer in terms of appearance:

Hygiene

Joints are a natural breeding ground for mold. This is because deposits and/or moisture often accumulate in the gaps, providing the ideal conditions for mold to grow. In a jointless bathroom, there are no comparable areas.

Easier cleaning

Even if mold does not form, grout is often difficult to clean and can become discolored over time. In bathrooms without tiles, however, finishes can simply be wiped clean.

Spacious impression

Rooms without joints and with continuous finishes automatically appear larger to the eye. That's why even a small bathroom benefits from this look.

Design freedom

The jointless bathroom offers the possibility of using materials such as wood or continuous natural stone, which are difficult to reproduce with tiles. Even if you want a tile look, this can also be easily imitated in a jointless bathroom – practically jointless tiles.

Possible materials for the seamless bathroom

Since there are no tiles in a joint-free bathroom, the question arises as to what would be a suitable replacement. In terms of materials, there are a whole range of different options, all of which have their own charm and can create completely different atmospheres in the bathroom.

Waxed concrete

Although the name suggests otherwise, this is not actually concrete, but rather a waterproof fine plaster that is ideal for seamless bathrooms. Visually, Beton Ciré harmonizes with bathrooms featuring a modern industrial look. However, it can also be combined perfectly with other styles as part of a gray bathroom.

Lime plaster

This version of the seamless bathroom is traditional and sustainable. The technique used has been around since ancient times, and the natural material hardens completely without additives. Water can easily roll off the surface, and the wall itself can be colored as desired. With the right mixture, you can even create marble lime plaster, which provides the perfect look for a marble bathroom.

Wood

Due to its natural, warm atmosphere, wood is a popular material for interior design and can also be used in the bathroom. If you want real wood, we recommend woods that absorb little moisture, such as oak or teak. Nevertheless, suitable sealing is required here, and especially in the vicinity of standing water or splashing water, the use of wood can quickly lead to disadvantages. Alternatively, laminate or vinyl, which are more water-resistant, can also be used for a seamless bathroom with a wood look.

Synthetic resin

Synthetic resin offers a good alternative for seamless bathrooms, as it does not react with water and is generally durable and easy to maintain. The material is also available in all kinds of colors and patterns, offering great design freedom. Unlike other alternatives, however, synthetic resin is completely synthetic.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper can also be used as a material in a seamless bathroom, provided that a water- and vapor-resistant type is chosen. A suitable wallpaper paste must also be used for wet room wallpaper. Different colors and motifs, right through to photo wallpaper, offer particularly individual options for designing a seamless bathroom. Similar to wood, however, even moisture-resistant wallpaper is not suitable for permanent contact with water, such as in the shower area.

The seamless shower

Even more than other areas of the bathroom, the shower area is exposed to high demands due to water. This is because walls here most frequently come into contact with water and steam, and small puddles can form around the shower. Nevertheless, a shower without tiles is perfectly possible.

In addition to the materials already mentioned for seamless bathrooms, which are also suitable for showers, complete shower back panels are also available. The practical advantage here is that they can be adapted relatively easily to the conditions in your bathroom. For example, sloping ceilings are no problem. They can also be installed quickly during renovation without the need for time-consuming tiling. Different looks and printable finishes provide the right aesthetic.

Floor-level shower trays are particularly recommended for a seamless transition, which is what gives the bathroom its jointless appearance. This allows the shower to blend seamlessly into the overall look of the bathroom and also ensures hygiene without vulnerable joints.

Planning a seamless bathroom

If you want to renovate your bathroom without tiles or create a seamless bathroom yourself in a new building, it is definitely advisable to do some advance planning. This is because many of the materials require specific techniques for installation and/or sealing to ensure that no moisture actually gets into the gaps.

If there is one disadvantage to a seamless bathroom, it is the slightly higher cost of installation. Accordingly, the initial costs for a seamless bathroom may also be higher if you need to hire professionals. Ultimately, however, this depends heavily on the material selected for the seamless bathroom. It is helpful to obtain detailed information from a specialist retailer in advance to find out what requirements there are.
