Sinks
Great variety in the world of sinks

Wall-mounted sinks
They can be mounted on the wall and can also be given a standing appearance, for example, by adding a half-pedestal or pedestal. The main purpose of the pedestal is to cover the siphon and the sanitary connections. It also makes cleaning easier.

Hand sinks
Sinks also come in different shapes and sizes. Hand sinks are particularly suitable for guest toilets as they are small and compact. Many other compact ceramics and furniture from Duravit are also suitable for smaller bathrooms, as they do not extend as far into the room due to their shortened projection and are therefore particularly space-saving.

Vessel Sinks und Drop-In Sinks
These cannot be installed in the bathroom on their own and require a suitable vanity unit or a countertop. Vessel sinks are placed on top of the furniture. This usually results in a significant contrast between the bathroom vanity unit and the ceramic sink. With drop-in and semi-recessed sinks, the ceramic sink is either fully or partially built into the vanity unit or the console plate.

Double sinks
Double sinks require sufficient space to be installed optimally. Once the ceramic is in place, it impresses with its functionality: several people can use it at the same time in the bathroom – perfect for multi-person households. Depending on the room layout, they are suitable for both large and small bathrooms. You can find details of the exact dimensions on our respective product pages.

Sink shapes and sizes
As for the shape of the sink, there are numerous and varied models. For example, not only are the Duravit countertop sinks available in round, oval, rounded and square shapes. In addition to the actual washbasin bowl, ceramics can also have additional storage space. This would be the case, for example, with asymmetrical sinks or if the ceramic has a tap hole bench. This is the rear edge of a sink on which the tap is mounted.

Tip: Not only the numerous shapes and sizes of sinks offer variety. There is also room for creativity in color: at Duravit, you will find ceramics in white, anthracite matt and two-tone designs.
Sink material
Our range includes Duravit sinks made either from classic ceramic sanitary ware or from our specially developed DuraCeram® material.
These sinks can be optionally equipped with our WonderGliss coating. WonderGliss is baked onto the ceramic and provides a water-repellent finish, keeping your sink beautiful and hygienically clean for longer. Scale and dirt run off more easily with the water on the smooth finish.
Sanitary ceramics
This hygienic material stands for high quality and consists of natural raw materials, which are covered with an appealing glaze. This glossy finish not only looks good, but is also durable, as it is heat-resistant, abrasion- and scratch-resistant, as well as lightfast.
DuraCeram®
This material was developed by Duravit. The patented recipe enables a high-strength ceramic for an even more refined quality, while reducing the weight of the sink. This creates the conditions for particularly thin-walled and at the same time linear designs, without any loss of quality, robustness and ease of care. Another advantage is sustainability. By saving raw materials, a reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions is achieved in the production process.
Overflow & vanity unit: What is necessary?
Sinks with and without overflow
The overflow is a small opening at the back of the sink that channels water into the drainpipe. This opening is mainly there to prevent flooding in the bathroom, for example, when the valve is closed while the water is running. In principle, sinks are available with or without an overflow hole. We offer the appropriate valves depending on whether you choose a ceramic with or without an opening. Here is a brief overview:

Note: If the Sink has an overflow hole, lockable valves can be combined. If there is no overflow hole, we recommend drain valves that cannot be locked. This prevents the water from overflowing.
Sink with or without vanity unit
Most sinks are mounted directly on the wall and do not necessarily require a Vanity unit – they can be freely suspended in the bathroom. These include the following sinks from Duravit:

The classic Sink

Guest toilet. Sink.

Double sink

Sink with pedestal and half-pedestal
The first three types of sink can be combined with either a Vanity unit or a metal frame, depending on the model. The washbasin with a half-pedestal or pedestal does not have this option due to the ceramic cover. A piece of furniture is necessary if the ceramic is not mounted directly on the wall or the design is not designed to function without furniture. This applies, for example, to countertop sinks.

Note: Vanity unit/metal frame and ceramics can be flexibly combined with each other depending on the model. However, this depends on the base or basin selected. Another criterion that also plays a role here is the finish of the ceramic, i.e. honed or non-honed.

Polished underside
The washbasin ceramic is designed to be used in combination with a console plate (also: washbasin plate). Due to the polished underside, the basin sits perfectly on the furniture. This design can also be optionally expanded with a Vanity unit or substructure.

Unpolished underside
These sinks are often, but not always, fully coated and therefore optimally protected against external influences. Unpolished sinks with a glazed underside can be mounted on the wall on their own. Vanity units, on the other hand, are combined with a matching vanity unit.
This information can be found on the product page. If you are unsure which Sink will fit in your bathroom and whether or not a bathroom vanity unit can be combined with it, please use the Duravit bathroom planner.
