Sebastian Herkner's dream bathroom

Innovative spatial solutions, exciting material compositions, and a completely new take on traditional bathroom design: Sebastian Herkner has designed Zencha, a bathroom series inspired by traditional Japanese rituals and craftsmanship. In his signature bathroom, however, the product designer has completely reinterpreted his series—stained wood shingles on the wall, shell limestone on the floor, and a ceramic room divider form the framework for this unique bathroom series.

The idea: generosity and grounding

It was important to me to create a spacious bathroom that showcases the Zencha bathtub while also leaving room for the essentials," says Sebastian Herkner, explaining his design.

The curve of the wall, which echoes the soft shape of , creates an exciting dialogue between architecture and interior design. The generous, square floor plan also pays homage to the unique design language of this series.

Ceramics interpreted in two ways

The impresses with two generous that continue the design language of the bathtubs. The purist, graphite-colored bathroom furniture with a textured glass front creates a harmonious visual contrast and emphasizes the elegant lightness with a filigree frame.

Behind it, the wall covering made of ceramic blocks creates a unique atmosphere in the room. Depending on how the light falls, it refracts the light in different ways, creating an extraordinary play of light in the bathroom.

Honest materials and contemporary tradition

"We want to feel comfortable in our bathroom, to create a place of retreat, which is why I opted for a rounded wall made of stained shingles—as a reference to honest craftsmanship," says Sebastian Herkner, explaining his exciting mix of materials. "It was important to me not to create a nostalgic bathroom, but one that, despite its traditional elements, fits timelessly into the present.

For the floor, he opted for large-format tiles made of shell limestone, a stone native to Germany that represents a return to the essentials.
