High quality of life with green design concept

Thanks to an innovative concept by architect Alvaro Sans and the architectural firm Vittorio Grassi Architects, the Meliá Milano has completely redesigned the hall, restaurant and meeting rooms. The new spatial concept is more functional, greener and meets the needs of a cosmopolitan clientele. Duravit is represented in the bathrooms with the Architec, DuraStyle and C.1 series.

functional and green interior design

The basic idea of the new concept is a further developed spatial concept of the former industrial building and the inclusion of the color green. Each area of the hotel consists of elements that create spaces without walls but still give them structure. For example, shelves with decorations serve to visually separate the lobby.
The green areas play a dual role as a colorful leitmotif and an ecological oasis. The structure of the building inside is brought to life by a sophisticated variety of trees and shrubs. Green contrasts with the neutral and minimal style of the furniture, creating a connection between the exterior and interior spaces.

"Green is the color of Milan, which has always been present in architecture, both inside and outside: courtyards are transformed into gardens, roofs into oases, and walls are covered by a cascade of plants," explains the Spanish architect Sans, "and I am convinced that green in its many forms gives people a better quality of life. That is why it will also influence future architectural developments."

Design concept from Milan-based architectural firm

The local architecture firm Vittorio Grassi Architects translated the idea of the architect Sans into an international project, which is, however, fully embedded in the Milanese context. Vittorio Grassi describes: "In collaboration with the architect Sans, we have made materials of natural origin the protagonists of the interiors, which are able to fully express their essence - such as the Spanish Macael marble combined with the elegant walnut wood with a natural surface - alongside large mirrored surfaces that give the rooms an elegant yet welcoming appearance."

Aesthetic, innovative and hygienic

Architec built-in washbasins and C.1 fittings in black matt from Duravit blend perfectly into the elegant ambience. There are also toilets and urinals from the DuraStyle series. Accessibility is ensured by the use of Architec washbasin Vital Med and DuraStyle wall-mounted toilets Vital.
Vittorio Grassi: "We chose Duravit for Meliá Milano because, in addition to the aesthetic aspect and comfort, this company also manufactures highly innovative products. Technological research is very important to us, and in this sense, the sanitary fittings we have installed offer the latest standards in hygiene and durability. The antibacterial treatments we requested (HygieneGlaze and WonderGliss) prevent dirt and limescale from settling on the surface, increasing hygiene and reducing maintenance. These are all fundamental aspects when it comes to projects in the hospitality sector."
