HygieneGlaze®

The new standard of hygiene in the bathroom

With HygieneGlaze®, Duravit sets a new standard of hygiene for toilets and urinals. This ceramic glaze is incorporated into the ceramic during firing and is not only extremely effective against bacteria, but also works extremely quickly. With our new HygieneGlaze® Plus, we go even further, combining the antibacterial effect with a particularly easy-care surface.

Against bacteria in hygienically sensitive areas

HygieneGlaze®

Germs are everywhere in our daily lives. In particularly sensitive areas such as hospitals, doctors' surgeries and care facilities, hygiene is an ongoing issue. The consistent use of disinfection and hygiene measures helps to kill or inactivate microorganisms. Modern concepts combine the targeted use of disinfecting substances with preventive measures, which also include surface coatings.

In this new, already patented process, additional activation mechanisms and new components have been used. The optimized formulation of HygieneGlaze® contains different metal ions and other active ingredients in a novel combination. It forms the basis for a particularly effective elimination of e.g. E. coli bacteria. The effectiveness is based on the oligodynamic effect, i.e. the bacteria-damaging effect of positively charged metal ions.

HygieneGlaze® is baked into the interior of the toilet and urinal, where it performs its function where germs can occur particularly frequently. This way, the toilet and urinal not only shine effortlessly clean, but also remain permanently hygienically clean – without the use of aggressive, environmentally harmful cleaners and disinfectants, as well as the excessive consumption of valuable drinking water.

Compared to ceramic tiles with conventional glaze, the growth of pathogens is inhibited by 99.9 percent within 24 hours when HygieneGlaze® is used. A corresponding hygienic-microbiological study by the Institute for Hygiene and Public Health at the University of Bonn scientifically confirms the efficient effect of the antibacterial properties of HygieneGlaze®: the special glaze has a toxic effect on bacteria and germs, which inhibits their growth.
