Patricia Urquiola

The multi-award-winning designer Patricia Urquiola also works in product design and architecture. Her typical combination of different styles, patterns and natural elements underscores the strong focus on sustainability, which is also evident in the Balcoon series.

Architect and product designer

Patricia Urquiola studied architecture and design at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and graduated from the Politecnico di Milano under the direction of Achille Castiglioni. After graduating, she worked with Vico Magistretti at De Padova and was later head of the design department at Lissoni & Partners. In 2001, she founded her own studio in Milan, which specializes in industrial design, architecture, art direction and strategic consulting.

Urquiola has been creative director at Cassina since 2015 and works with some of the world's leading brands, including Haworth, Louis Vuitton, B&B Italia, Moroso, Flos, Kvadrat, BMW, Starbucks and Ferrari. Her work is featured in prestigious art and design museums around the world, including MoMA in New York, Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Triennale in Milan, Vitra Design Museum in Basel, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Patricia Urquiola regularly gives lectures at universities around the world. She is a member of the advisory board of the Politecnico di Milano and the scientific committee of the Fondazione Triennale Museum in Milan. She was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Arts by the Spanish government for her services. In 2023, she was named one of the new honorary ambassadors of Marca España, and in 2024 she was inducted into the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
