Sebastian Herkner's dream bathroom

The idea: generosity and grounding
It was important to me to create a spacious bathroom that showcases the Zencha bathtub while also leaving room for the essentials," says Sebastian Herkner, explaining his design.
The curve of the wall, which echoes the soft shape of the bathtub, creates an exciting dialogue between architecture and interior design. The generous, square floor plan also pays homage to the unique design language of this series.

The floor plan
The square floor plan of the bathroom is defined by the iconic bathtub from the Zencha series, which not only serves as an eye-catching feature but also sets the formal aesthetic tone.

Bathtub as the centerpiece
The bathtub forms the centerpiece of the interior design. The shingle-clad wall is modeled on its delicately curved shape, creating a harmonious overall look. With its softness and generosity, the bathtub shapes the entire bathroom design.
Ceramics interpreted in two ways
The double washbasin impresses with two generous countertop basins that continue the design language of the bathtubs. The purist, graphite-colored bathroom furniture with a textured glass front creates a harmonious visual contrast and emphasizes the elegant lightness with a filigree frame.
Behind it, the wall covering made of ceramic blocks creates a unique atmosphere in the room. Depending on how the light falls, it refracts the light in different ways, creating an extraordinary play of light in the bathroom.

The sink area
Sebastian Herkner opted for a double washbasin to meet the challenges of everyday life. The vanity units create visual order, while the generous DuraCeram® countertop sinks and matching mirrors offer space and room for personal hygiene.

The toilet area
The ceramic room divider "Sahel," designed by Sebastian Herkner for Kaufmann Keramik, is also used as a partition for the Happy D.2 wall-mounted toilet. Its asymmetrical design creates intimacy while maintaining the openness of the room.

Other bathroom furniture
The additional tall cabinets in the Zencha series not only offer additional storage space, but also echo the textured glass of the vanity units as a finish and harmoniously round off the overall composition.
Honest materials and contemporary tradition
"We want to feel comfortable in our bathroom, to create a place of retreat, which is why I opted for a rounded wall made of stained shingles—as a reference to honest craftsmanship," says Sebastian Herkner, explaining his exciting mix of materials. "It was important to me not to create a nostalgic bathroom, but one that, despite its traditional elements, fits timelessly into the present.
For the floor, he opted for large-format tiles made of shell limestone, a stone native to Germany that represents a return to the essentials.

Herkner's personal signature
Sebastian Herkner's preference for authentic materials and emotional, sensual architecture that breaks away from strict rules is the starting point for his work. "Because it's not about unnecessary luxury or decadence, but about a space that touches us personally, supports us in our everyday lives, and allows us to find peace."

Matching accessories
For Sebastian Herkner, a room is only complete when it supports the everyday tasks we have already learned: a soap dish, a trash can, several towel hooks, a toilet paper holder. With the right accessories, everything is tidy, neatly stored, and always within reach.
