Large bathtub in a bright bathroom

Large bathtubs

For everyone who loves comfort

Whether you’re bathing alone, with a partner, or just letting the kids have fun in the tub at home—large bathtubs are comfortable, practical, and, thanks to our Duravit designs, a visual delight as well. A large bathtub is perfect for luxury and relaxation in the comfort of your own home. When choosing a large bathtub, there are numerous styles, shapes, and sizes to choose from. Our portfolio offers the right design solution for every taste.

Key points at a glance:

  • Planning for large bathtubs: Size, shape, and placement should be optimally tailored to the floor plan and the room's dimensions.
  • Look for comfort features: Ergonomic backrests, centrally located drains, and spacious interiors enhance bathing comfort.
  • Make a statement with the right shape: freestanding, rectangular, or corner bathtubs can create a luxurious, relaxing atmosphere, depending on the design.

Large bathtubs – purchasing and use

Large corner bathtubs or large freestanding bathtubs are also suitable for two people, as they provide ample space for both of you to sit comfortably. What should you keep in mind when purchasing and using them?

  • Whether side-by-side or facing each other, the interior of the tub should be designed to comfortably accommodate 1–2 people.
  • For convenience, the faucets and the drain should be centered.
  • Ergonomic backrests provide greater comfort.
  • A large bathtub featuring two backrests (double bathtub) offers comfortable relaxation for two.

Create a relaxing atmosphere with large bathtubs

First, it’s important to measure the available floor space in your bathroom so that this area can be utilized optimally and tailored to your individual needs. Next, decide on the desired location and choose a large bathtub shape that fits the available space. However, the exterior shape doesn’t say much about how spacious the interior of the bathtub is. Whether round or rectangular, freestanding or wall-mounted: Duravit offers large bathtubs in numerous designs and for every taste.

Large corner bathtubs

Generally speaking, large corner bathtubs include all large bathtubs that, due to their shape or built-in tub surround, can only be placed in a corner.

However, models with a classic triangular shape or the typical trapezoidal shape also fit perfectly into a bathroom corner and make excellent choices as large corner bathtubs for two people. A corner bathtub like this is particularly well-suited as a large bathtub in spacious bathrooms. It often comes equipped with a practical shelf where bath accessories can be placed.

Large freestanding bathtubs

Large freestanding bathtubs look stunning in spacious bathrooms. If the idea of a completely freestanding bathtub doesn’t appeal to you, you can position the bathtub against a wall on one side, leaving it open on the other three sides. Models installed this way are called pre-wall bathtubs.

Alternatively, you can have a half-height wall built against which to position the tub. This can also offer numerous design options and an efficient use of space. However, this requires that the water lines be rerouted to that location.

Large rectangular bathtubs

Rectangular bathtubs have proven themselves to be timeless classics among both large and small bathtubs. Like corner bathtubs, they can be installed against two walls if desired.

This large, traditional bathtub offers plenty of space for your morning or evening routine, as well as for relaxing moments of wellness. It stands out for its clean, geometric design, which allows you to add striking accents with unique faucets if desired.

Round and oval bathtubs

In addition to their stylish design, Duravit’s oval or round bathtubs feature a comfortable interior shape thanks to their gentle curves. As freestanding models, these large bathtubs are a real eye-catcher.

The circular bathtub from the White Tulip series, designed by Philippe Starck, and the square bathtub with rounded corners from the Zencha series by Sebastian Herkner are particularly eye-catching. Their design is inspired by a blooming tulip and offers maximum comfort inside.

How many liters does a bathtub hold?

The average capacity of a standard bathtub designed for a full bath, with standard dimensions of 180 x 80 cm, ranges from 150 to 180 liters of water. Larger bathtubs can even have a capacity of 200 to 300 liters. How much water a bathtub can actually hold depends on three key factors:

Size

The longer and wider the base and the higher the bathtub rim, the greater the possible capacity.

Form

The shape of the tub's interior also plays an important role—for example, the steepness of the walls.

Location of the overflow

The lower the overflow and the resulting water level, the smaller the capacity.

However, the tub’s capacity is never fully utilized simply by the water displaced by the body. In addition, the ideal water level depends on your height and your preferred sitting or lying position. To conserve water, you should never fill the tub completely.

Whether a large bathtub is suitable for your bathroom depends not only on your personal taste but also on the layout of the room. In long, symmetrical bathrooms, a large rectangular bathtub blends harmoniously into the overall design. However, if you have a bathroom with an irregular layout, a large corner bathtub for two people might be just the thing for you.

If you're looking for a statement piece for a spacious bathroom, a freestanding, oversized bathtub placed in the center of the room is a great choice. One thing is certain: a large bathtub can add an extra touch of luxury to any bathroom.
