ICS Symbiosis

With the international school ICS Symbiosis, the renowned architecture firm Barreca & La Varra has created a remarkable school building in the heart of Milan's Porta Romana business district. In close cooperation with the ICS students, a vertically structured school building was created that combines unusual spatial concepts and ultra-modern design principles on a relatively small plot of land. Pupils aged between 4 and 18 years old strive to complete their schooling here on seven floors. The ICS Symbiosis combines creative architecture, innovative interior design and functional elegance in a unique way. When it came to choosing the sanitary products, the decision was made in favor of high-quality products from the complete bathroom provider Duravit.

Sanitary comfort without compromise

Duravit sanitary products combine timeless design with functionality and complement the sophisticated architectural concept of ICS Symbiosis. The modern sanitary rooms were equipped with products from the ME by Starck range - including washbasins and rimless toilets that offer maximum comfort. Even when designing the barrier-free toilets, no compromises had to be made in terms of design and aesthetics in order to create an inclusive environment. Carefully selected products from the DuraStyle range take into account the needs of people with limited mobility. For example, wheelchair users can easily drive under the DuraStyle Vital washbasin and use it unhindered.

A game of glass and metal

Barreca & La Varra succeeded in creating a memorable silhouette through the characteristic shape of the building, which blends seamlessly into the scenery. The façades of the building interact with the surroundings in a fascinating way through large glass façades and artfully crafted metal elements that wrap around the building like a shell. The architectural concept creates a visual depth and dynamism that interacts playfully with viewing angles, reflections, shadows and sunlight.

A place of education, creativity and encounters

In order to guarantee first-class education and development for children and young people, great importance was attached to creating a pleasant and varied learning atmosphere when equipping ICS Symbiosis. From the spacious assembly hall and science rooms to the school's own indoor swimming pool, everything is on offer. The inviting atmosphere with student-friendly interior design ensures comfort and well-being. Colored wood paneling, diversely designed rooms and circular book niches not only provide visually interesting impressions, but also stimulate creativity. Pupils find a retreat in the wall-integrated design lounges where they can talk to their classmates between lessons or simply relax. Barreca & La Varra have thus succeeded in creating a place where pupils enjoy spending time.
