The castle-like property, built in 1911, towers over Schramberg in the Black Forest and, following its reopening, combines a listed building, guest house, event venue and museum. Under the direction of Dr. Hans-Jochem Steim, co-owner of the German watchmaker Junghans, Gut Berneck has been sympathetically restored. The bathrooms, which are particularly stylishly fitted with Duravit sanitary ware, have also been restored.

Industrial history in the bathroom

The newly renovated bathrooms strike a balance between historical substance and modern comfort. Green tiles from the Junghans watch factory give the bathrooms historical charm, while grey marbled and sand-grey tiles set modern accents. The elegant washbasins and wall-hung toilets from the Starck 3 series underline the timeless ambience. The inclusive comfort and design in the bathroom of the barrier-free guest room are particularly successful. This is ensured by the wheelchair-accessible washbasin Vital and the wall-mounted toilet Vital from the Starck 3 series.

Traces of time

The nine suites on the upper floor and first floor of the Gut Bernecks are generously and openly designed. The elevated position of the property offers a sweeping view of the town of Schramberg and the surrounding Black Forest, as well as of the nine-storey terraced building (built 1916-18) of the Junghans watch factory. As a tribute, two clocks are hung next to each other in each room. Some of the furniture comes from the renowned Hotel Savoy (Baur en Ville) in Zurich and underlines the historical and at the same time luxurious charm.

Harmonious soundscapes

In the entrance hall, the original chandelier and a harmonium-schelesta from 1920 immediately catch the eye. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Jochem Steim is particularly proud of his collection of around two dozen self-playing musical instruments, including orchestrions, barrel organs and music boxes.
