The right faucet for the right basin

July 30, 2026

The appropriate faucet for everyday use in the washing area

  • Height and type of installation are tailored to the ceramics and planning details
  • Washbasins, above-counter basins and undercounter washbasins each call for different faucet solutions
  • Finishes such as Chrome, Matt Black, Brushed Metal or Polished Gold establish the desired match between faucet, ceramics and furniture

Faucets are used throughout the day - for washing our hands, cleansing our faces, cleaning our teeth. This makes it all the more important that the faucet is a perfect match for the given basin. Choosing the right height, spout and type of installation is key to creating a washing area which is pleasant to use and presents a harmonious impression. Duravit offers a broad range of faucets to match different basins, washing areas and styles.

Height makes the difference

Faucets in sizes S and M are suitable for washbasins, furniture washbasins, built-in washbasins and above-counter basins with a tap platform. They are unobtrusive in small washing areas or guest bathrooms, as faucet and ceramics blend well together. The compact proportions call for a good match between faucet height and spout. It is important that the flow of water into the basin leaves enough room for hands while also avoiding any splashing.

Over the basin rim

In the case of above-counter basins without a tap platform, the faucet is installed next to the ceramics, on the furniture or on the console. The height of the faucet plays a more significant role here: The spout must reach over the basin rim and guide the flow of water reliably. High variants such as the L single-lever washbasin mixer from Duravit's Wave series are suitable for this type of washing area, to which they add a special presence and a classy look.

Freeing up space in the washing area

Wall-mounted faucets keep the area around the basin clear and provide for a neat and tidy setting featuring the ceramics as the centerpiece. They are suitable for above-counter washbasins without a tap platform and can also be used in combination with undercounter washbasins when the overall planning allows for this option. As the connections are in the wall, their positioning needs to be decided on at an early juncture. Their height and projection must be coordinated with the ceramics, in order to ensure that the water flows reliably into the basin and for optimum convenience in everyday use.

The perfect finish

The surface finish plays a vital role in shaping the overall impression of the washbasin ensemble, as demonstrated by Duravit's Wave faucet range in a number of different variants: Chrome is restrained, Matt Black contrasts effectively with light surfaces, wood or ceramics. Brushed metallic tones such as stainless steel and bronze add depth and warmth to the washing area. Polished Gold provides an exquisite highlight and harmonizes particularly well with natural materials such as stone, wood or textured surfaces.
