Care of an acrylic bathtub
With good care, acrylic bathtubs can last for 30-50 years. That's why it's so important to look after them properly. This is how you can ensure that you get many years of enjoyment from your acrylic bathtub. The practical thing is that acrylic is naturally resistant to dirt. Their smooth and pore-free finish is particularly easy to clean and hygienic. To clean acrylic bathtubs, any deposits should be removed regularly to maintain the silky shine. Simply wipe with a soft cloth or sponge and a mild detergent.

Installing an acrylic bathtub
Additional accessories are required for the installation of bathtubs, which should always be carried out by professionals. This also applies to acrylic bathtubs.
Either a base frame or a tray support can be used for installation. The tray support has the advantage that tiles can be laid directly on it, avoiding the need to create a separate tiled surface.
The base frame, on the other hand, is easier to adjust in height and is attached to the tub from below. In addition, the bathtub must be supported on the wall using a tub anchor.
Many of our Duravit built-in bathtubs are also optionally available with matching cladding. Note: This, like the other accessories, must be ordered separately.

The material: acrylic bathtubs made of sanitary acrylic
Sanitary acrylic is a thermoplastic material that has been on the market since the 1970s. It impresses with its appealing high-gloss look, which also gives a pleasant feeling when touching the smooth and non-porous finish. Even at low room temperatures, sanitary acrylic is perceived as pleasantly warm.
In addition, acrylic bathtubs are resistant to abrasion and particularly robust. Thanks to the gently shining finish, combined with our timeless designs, acrylic bathtubs from Duravit harmonize with any bathroom.
Tip: minor unevenness caused by deposits and dirt over time can be repaired with an acrylic care set. This allows the material of the acrylic bathtub to be polished, leaving the finish with a lasting shine.
How are Duravit acrylic bathtubs made?
Duravit uses sanitary acrylic to manufacture the acrylic sheets used for acrylic bathtubs. This acrylic is produced under resting conditions and is cast in a liquid state between two glass plates. Acrylic sheets are characterized by a pore-free, dimensionally stable and high-gloss finish, making them a visually and haptically pleasing highlight in the bathroom. The so-called deep-drawing process is used to produce acrylic bathtubs made of sanitary acrylic.
1. Molding acrylic sheet
First, a large acrylic plate is heated to around 180 degrees and formed into the shape of the acrylic bathtub using the proven deep-drawing process.
2. Stabilization
After cooling and hardening, the blank must be reinforced with wood and fiberglass. These fibers are sprayed onto the back of the acrylic bathtub along with liquid resin, providing stability and the necessary elasticity.
3. Manual rework
The hardened acrylic bathtub is cut to size and the excess material is removed. Now all the necessary holes are drilled, such as for the drain and overflow.
4. Quality control
Finally, the acrylic bathtub is carefully inspected by our specialized staff. If it passes the quality control, it is handed over to the shipping department.
Advantages of acrylic bathtubs
- Skin-friendliness
The silky shine of an acrylic bathtub's surface is pleasant to the touch, smooth and non-porous. - Pleasant feel
The finish feels warm as soon as you get into the tub and is kind to the skin. - A wide range of design options

Because acrylic bathtubs are dyed all the way through, they do not change over time and remain beautiful and unchanged in color over the years. - Light weight
The low weight of an acrylic built-in tub, between 20 and 30 kilograms, is an important purchasing criterion that should not be underestimated and is an advantage when it comes to transporting, installing and renovating bathrooms. - Impact and shock resistance
Acrylic bathtubs are resistant to strong impacts and shocks. Small scratches can be sanded, filled and polished away with the help of an acrylic tub repair kit. - UV resistance
