How it all began

Then as now, Duravit is shaping bathroom design. We have achieved this primarily through our collaboration with Dieter Sieger in 1990. This marked the beginning of our career as a designer of bathroom furnishings. With the "Darling" ceramics series, we set standards and, in retrospect, changed the industry. It certainly took courage, but above all a love of enduring design and timeless forms, which are still evident in every Duravit product today.

Dieter Sieger, born in Münster/Westphalia in 1938, studied architecture at the Werkkunstschule Dortmund and founded his architecture firm in 1964 after graduating. Initially, he designed houses, later he designed the interiors of sailing and motor yachts. In 1987, he designed the Giamo bathroom series for Duravit. With the strikingly shaped bathroom ceramics and the perfectly matching bathroom furniture, Sieger optimized the still new series concept.

In the years that followed, other successful bathroom series were created, such as Dellarco, Lavillette and Darling. Dieter Sieger is considered one of the most innovative and globally successful designers in the bathroom segment. In 2003, his two sons took over the helm: Michael (born in 1968), the creative one, studied industrial design at the University of Applied Sciences in Essen and product design at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster. Together with his brother Christian (born 1965), the manager, he continues to develop successful bathroom concepts for Duravit: 2nd floor, Darling New, X-Large and Happy D.2. Sieger Design also designs products for companies such as Arzberg, Dornbracht, Sony and WMF.
