A small, natural stone gatehouse stands at the wrought iron entrance gate to the grounds of a Mansion near Paris. The building is more than 400 years old and was once home to the gatekeeper. Following comprehensive restoration, it now serves as the grandmother's personal retreat, just a few steps away from her family. On roughly 74 square meters of floor space, she is able to maintain her independence while staying close to her kin. The planning took due account of her everyday needs. In the main bathroom, select Duravit products combine the historic setting with contemporary comfort.
History uncovered
Particular care was necessary when restoring the old structure of the building. The original natural stone facade came to light under the plaster. New window shutters in sage green complement the uncovered masonry in homage to the traditional architectural style. Together with the brick-built chimneys and the tiled roof, they preserve the gatehouse's original character.
Small yet roomy
Inside, the compact house takes the form of an open maisonette extending over two levels. Visible wooden beams lend structure to the high living area and also frame crème-colored wall surfaces and individual unplastered sections. The honey-colored natural stone floor takes up the warm shades of the walls. In keeping with the color scheme and material mix, the furnishings include a striped sofa, woven armchairs and natural-fiber rugs. The black fireplace adds a striking contrast.
Open plan over two levels
A gallery links the ground-floor living area with the upper story, where the sleeping area and the main bathroom are located. White floor boards and light-colored walls draw the daylight well into the rooms.
An upholstered bed featuring a curved wooden frame and offering a direct view of the mansion is the centerpiece of the upper story. A large-scale sea motif in nuanced shades of blue and violet covers the entire wall behind the bed. The gentle color transitions create an impression of depth and evoke an atmosphere of calm.
Designed for day-to-day life
The house's natural color scheme is continued in the main bathroom. Glazed green tiles and natural stone in warm ocher tones provide the backdrop for the bathroom fittings by Duravit. The washing area of the White Tulip range takes center stage. The vanity unit in Nordic White Satin Matt, gently flared ceramics and a matching faucet form an aesthetic entity. Chrome details on the faucet and the furniture handles also feature in the accessories of the Starck T range, serving as a leitmotiv and providing for a harmonious overall impression. Here too, the planning focused on the resident's needs. The SensoWash® Classic shower-toilet combines comfort and simplicity in everyday use. The facilities also include handles in the shower area, which are intended to ensure lasting comfort and convenience in the bathroom.
