The minds behind the designs

Collaborating with renowned designers has always been at the heart of what makes Duravit unique. Together, we refine designs until a good idea becomes a product that looks aesthetically pleasing and feels just right in everyday use.

Good design, therefore, does not begin with the object itself, but with a question: How do people want to live, move about, retreat, and organize their daily lives? This perspective is particularly relevant in the bathroom and has been a central focus at Duravit since the 1980s, in collaboration with a wide range of renowned designers from the fields of product design and architecture. It involves taking a creative look at routines and translating them into products, spaces, and systems that function reliably over the long term.

From Philippe Starck to Sebastian Herkner to Patricia Urquiola

More than 24 international designers have now collaborated with Duravit to reimagine the bathroom and develop numerous product lines. Over time, many of these designs have become true classics. The fact that the designs all complement one another despite their distinct styles is due to a shared commitment: to create designs that reflect the spirit of the times yet will still be appealing many years from now.

At the heart of these partnerships is close collaboration and joint product development. The designers work closely with Duravit’s product management and product development teams, combining their design expertise with Duravit’s ceramic expertise. Some of the product lines developed are highly complex from a craftsmanship perspective and undergo several test production runs at the headquarters in Hornberg in a workshop-like environment until every product detail is perfected.

Award-winning design

Duravit’s commitment to viewing design not as an “end in itself” but as a harmonious blend of aesthetics, function, and quality is regularly recognized by independent design juries: Over the years, the company’s products and collections have been honored with numerous international design awards. These include recurring accolades such as the German Design Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and the iF Design Award.

A recent example is Balcoon: the product line designed by Patricia Urquiola was named a “Winner” at the 2026 German Design Award.
