Soak up the atmosphere
A site directly on the shore of Lake Constance offering a panoramic view of the Swiss Alps – the setting alone promises plenty of diversion for those wishing to relax and take their mind off things. The new thermal spa lives up to this promise with a mix of interesting distractions
and restful tranquility, colour and light. The building nestles in the gently rising shoreline. Two wings positioned at an obtuse angle to each other form the backbone of the complex. They link up with the large glazed bathing hall which opens up to the lake. Sailing ships provided the architectural model for the design.
The motif appears in numerous variants. The wood-panelled west wing facing towards the lake is reminiscent of a ship's bow, for example – an association which is further reinforced by the wood-planked sundeck with white deck rail on the roof, affording a panoramic view of the water. The roof appears to hover weightlessly
over the glazed building. The underside features coloured triangular patterns which take up the sail motif once again. The interior is light and airy. Light natural stone flooring and fair-faced concrete walls provide the backdrop against which individual objects stand out
in more striking colours. Elements featuring bright red or warm green patterns provide highlights in the changing rooms and sanitary areas. In the large swimming pool hall the eye first focuses on a red stair sculpture and on the
greenish mosaic of the sitting and relaxation areas before wandering over the vast expanse of Lake Constance.
